The Story Behind the Poems

Welcome to Martin Salzer Stories.

This is the home of my books, poems, songs, and real-life stories.

During my 57 years of marriage (the first 30 as a plumber), I’ve collected enough love, laughter, mistakes, mischief and memories to fill more than a few pages.

My first book, Poems from the Plumber, is a collection of heartfelt, humorous, playful, and romantic poems inspired by my wife Marianne and the life we’ve shared together. Many of these poems have also been brought to life as original songs in various styles.

Here you’ll find my poem book, upcoming projects, and the stories behind them.

This site will also follow my next book (in the works), Nicky Newark — a story set in the late 1960s and early 1970s, about a young man chasing his dream of becoming an actor while becoming entangled with the mob in Newark, New Jersey.

Thank you for visiting. I hope something here makes you laugh, smile, or touches your heart.

She thinks that I’m insensitive

to all her wants and needs,

She must know everything I do

the thought of her precedes.

She thinks that I can go for weeks

without the urge to speak,

She must know that a cluttered mind

is oft what makes me weak.

She thinks I spell communication

S E X,

She must know visions of herself

are all my mind collects.

She thinks when I express myself

that I protest too much,

She must know all I long for

is to feel her tender touch.

She thinks that she’s the only one

who feels a certain way,

She must know what my feelings are

but seldom do I say.

She thinks that I don’t know the meaning

of the word “romance”,

She must know that is all I see

when at her face I glance.

She thinks I’m toopredictable

that I don’t change a lot,

She must know my intent is that

she’s sure of what she’s got.

She thinks that I don’t try to do

the things she asks of me,

She must know if her wish is in my power

it shall be.

She thinks that I fall short in ways

that I don’t comprehend,

She must know that if I could read her mind, that fault I’d mend.

She thinks that I can put my love for her

up on the shelf,

She must that I love her,

love her more than life itself.
